An Excuse To Clean My Fridge

I can be such an impulsive shopper.  Poor Chris just shakes his head.  My most recent purchase is called a Fridge Coaster.  I call it an excuse to clean my fridge.  And they’re cute.  Mine is teal with medallions, chevrons and polk-a-dots.

I chose the fridge pack which comes with an assortment of colors and sizes.  I figured that I would try it out first and then buy more if it’s working out.

The concept is pretty simple. Put an absorbent, recyclable board under your food and you will have less mess to clean in the end.  The fridge pack covered most of my shelves, but not all. I could use a couple more large coasters for the top shelf and very bottom shelf.

Luckily my fridge was fairly empty when I took my pics so you can see what they look like.

I put two smaller coasters together for the long shelf.

As you can see they’re a little small for the crispers.

According to the FAQ sheet, Fridge Coasters:

  • are good for 120 days unless you spill raw meat on them
  • can be wiped down with a soapy sponge
  • will not lose their form, swell, or fall apart when they get wet
  • will not bleed ink even when submerged in water

I’ll keep you posted on how they hold up over time.  Maybe they’ll work out so well that Chris won’t roll his eyes at me next time a mysterious package arrives on our porch.

What have you bought lately on impulse?

Have a great weekend.

Never heard of these before! What will they think of next, haha. I like how they add a fun, expected pop to a fridge.

Cute, but wouldn’t plain old cardboard work just as well? I mean if it does get dirty, just chuck it out and use a new piece. Maybe these are supposed to “breathe” more than corregated cardboard(?) You could always use plain old cardboard and cover it in fancy paper for more fridge excitement…Haha! My last impulse buy was yesterday. I went thrift store shopping all afternoon. I bought a vintage crystal perfume bottle w/stopper. It was a whopping 99 cents! Haha! I’m not an impulse buyer very much. Oh wait…the other day in Target I stopped into the Starbucks there and got a small frozen latte which I hadn’t planned on See? I’m a horrible impulse shopper ;-)

I was thinking the same think Connie. We’ll see if it does something different than cardboard would. It may be more absorbent which is what the claim is.

That’s a cool idea! I hate cleaning out the fridge! Plus, we have a terrible looking rust streak down the back of our fairly new fridge. Majorly gross.

This I would love if I could throw them into the washer (or dishwasher) to clean. I agree with the others, not entirely sure what the benefit is. You’ll have to be sure to give us an update in a few weeks, who knows? Maybe you’ll find that it is something you can’t live without!
