This week I’m inspired by Mercury Glass. This silvered glass has been around since 1840 and originated in Bohemia (which is now the Czech Republic). It was the first type of art glass to be displayed, rather than used. Although Mercury was used to make mirrors, it was not used to create the silver effect in glass objects (thank goodness). Instead, a silver nitrate and grape sugar solution was heated and then sealed into double-blown glass (Source).
So, that’s my inspiration for the week. If you’d like to see more Mercury Glass check out my Pinterest board.
What’s your take on Mercury Glass, Yay or Nay?
Do you own any glass now and if so, what is it?
I’ll be back on Wed to give you a flavor of my colorful weekend.
